We find out at the end of episode 70. Kuwabara gets kidnapped by some bad guys (while attempting to rescue Yusuke, who'd been kidnapped himself). When the gang eventually recovers him, he's been stripped down to his shorts.
When he gets mocked for his state of undress, Kuwabara gets flustered and stomps off.
"Not my fault they took my clothes," he mutters.
