They were kind of a "take that!" to Superman and Batman.
These two Wildstorm guys have also kinda become poster boys for "wholesome gay superhero couple", I think? Which is nice! But I haven't read much Authority since Warren Ellis quit writing it, so who knows what shizzle's gone down. I do remember their first appearance in the pages of Stormwatch though.
Mostly cuz they were kinda naked in it.
